NodPro® LCO

Increase biological nitrogen fixation and improve your soybean yield.

The importance of nitrogen fixation

Nitrogen fixation is a natural process in which nitrogen molecules in the atmosphere are converted into reactive compounds that are used for biochemical processes. In plants, nitrogen fixation is essential to support growth.

Legumes, like soybeans, are able to form a symbiotic relationship with rhizobia—nitrogen-fixing bacteria in the soil that form nodules on plant roots to convert atmospheric nitrogen into ammonia that the plant uses to develop and grow.

The natural process of nitrogen fixation

About half of today’s soybean producers rely exclusively on native rhizobia for nitrogen fixation, where the soils have built up rhizobia populations. However, the plant and rhizobia need to work together utilizing communication signals to initiate the processes.

The natural process depends on the components doing their job at the right time and being in the right place. That’s where biosolutions can help.

Boosting the signal to aid nodulation

Lipo-chitooligosaccharides (LCOs) are a key component in nitrogen fixation and nodulation in soybean plants. These molecules, which are produced by rhizobial bacteria, signals the plant setting off the nodulation process.

By providing these signals, you can boost the natural nodulation process, allowing the native rhizobia to initiate nodule formation sooner. LCOs also work within the rhizosphere to drive plant growth through root and shoot development and increased mycorrhizal associations.

how LCO Promoter Technolog works in legumes

Introducing NodPro® LCO:

An innovative soybean seed treatment that uses LCO Promoter Technology® to deliver a signal that initiates nodulation, aids in mycorrhization, increases biological nitrogen fixation, and stimulates plant growth.

NodPro® LCO

Available in a low-use, ready-to-apply formulation, NodPro® delivers the signals your soybeans need to work with native rhizobia or inoculated seed. LCO is a signaling molecule that is a key part of the plant’s natural development process, delivering benefits sooner and more effectively than nature alone.

NodPro® has a low use rate—0.34 fl. oz/cwt—and has been shown in multiyear replicated trials to increase yield by 1.3 bushels per acre. And this powerful technology is compatible with rhizobia inoculants and other seed treatments.

NodPro® benefits:

Enhance nitrogen fixation

LCO acts as a communication signal between the plant and rhizobia. This means the plant begins an earlier and more efficient nodulation process for fixing nitrogen.

Boost yields and increase ROI

In multiyear replicated trials, NodPro® LCO has shown a proven yield increase of 1.3 bushels per acre.

Improve mycorrhizal associations

LCO is a powerful signaling technology to initiate mycorrhization that supports expanded functional root volume and increased nutrient and water uptake.

NodPro® LCO enhances crop resilience and performance across a wide range of growing conditions.

Use with multiple chemistries and inoculants

The signaling molecule in NodPro® is EPA registered LCO that contains no living biologicals, allowing it to be highly compatible with many chemistries and inoculant seed treatments.

A new addition to our LCO product line

Novozymes U.S. agronomist Adam Kayser discusses NodPro® LCO, a new microbial soybean treatment that uses LCO Promoter Technology® to deliver a signal that initiates nodulation and stimulates plant growth.
